When it comes to workout recovery, there is one supplement that stands above them all – BCAAs.  Also known as – Branched Chain Amino Acids, these are the essential amino acids, which must be obtained from our diet.   If you’re following a high protein diet, you’re no doubt getting these in your diet, but supplementing with them is a much faster and efficient way; especially when it comes to your fitness goals!

Watermelon Mint BCAA Slushie Sweetness

I live in a very hot place – the beautiful, sand castle city of Dubai.   If you workout regularly, in the heat, then this combination of hydrating watermelon juice, energizing beetroot juice full of natural pump nitrates, along with muscle building BCAAs is the perfect post-workout drink!

There’s also a squeeze of citrus from lemon and lime, high in the antioxidant vitamin C.   Vitamin C is essential for collagen production – keeps our skin glowing and firm, and can help assist in the recovery process.

Why You Need BCAAs

If you have gym goals – want lean sexy curves and are lifting weights, you should consider BCAAs as part of your supplement routine.  BCAAs play an important role in the pathways of muscle building.

There are three BCAAs – Isoleucine, Valine and the rock star of the group – Leucine.   The very presence of Leucine causes some serious results by turning on the pathways of muscle synthesis.  In fact, without it, nothing happens, as a result your body can start to catabolize – breakdown protein in order to satisfy its own need.

If you’re working out a lot, your amino levels or nitrate levels will start to fall.  Supplementing with a BCAA after your workouts will help pump up those levels, and help fuel muscle recovery – building and even maintaining your current gains!  Bonus.

Here’s a few more supplements, active fit females should supplement with – go here!

What’s In This Slushie:

This delightful frozen slushie is quick and easy to make, and will elevate your BCAAs to the next level!  Here’s what you’ll need.

Beet Root Juice– this juice is full of natural nitrates.  Nitrates increase blood flow, assisting in nutrient delivery throughout the body, including the muscles.  That means those BCAAs can get there faster!

Watermelon Juice – watermelon is hydrating.  In fact, it’s like 90% water, but oh that 10%.  It’s also got some amazing ingredients that will aid in muscle recovery including the amino acid Citrulline – another natural nitrate booster, vitamin A, B6 and C.

Splash of Citrus – besides being a taste complement with watermelon, lemon and lime juice also add more vitamin C. This vitamin is critical for collagen production – keeping our skin firm and glowing!

BCAA – be sure to pick a reputable brand – look for a certification of cGMP that means it’s made in a facility that uses certified good manufacturing process.  I choose watermelon flavor, but you could also use non-flavored, or a citrus flavor.

Sparkling Water or Diet 7-Up – this add the sparkle.  It will also replace the water that you would normally use.  If you don’t like carbonation, then by all means replace with flat water.

Mint – Use fresh, and plenty of it.  Make sure it’s clean, and remove the stems, just use the leaves. The flavor will bring you to straight to Cabos, just like drinking a watermelon margarita.

Lauren’s Tips:

  • BCAAs are best consumed in supplement form, when it comes to post-workout gains. In food they’re bound to other aminos and are not free form, when you supplement you get the benefit of the BCAAs right away.
  • If you’re using IF – intermittent fasting and workout before you break your fast, use BCASS post workout.BCAAs have been shown to result in huge anabolic spikes when used in fasted individuals.
