Anti-Aging Wrinkle Fighting Smoothie

When it comes to fighting wrinkles, there are lots of things we can do to improve our skin exterior.  I’m not gonna lie, I use botox, fillers have done micro-needling and even the famous ‘vampire’ PRP facial.   But, what we feed our skin is just as important to fighting wrinkles.  Certain foods can help improve our skin hydration, improve skin texture and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.   Here’s my go-to anti-aging wrinkle fighting smoothie; full of fresh ingredients to help fight wrinkles.

The Antioxidant & Vitamin-C Suppliers

Blueberries and strawberries are rich in antioxidants that help protect the skin.  They contain high doses of antioxidants including resveratrol, anthocyanins, ellagic acid and vitamin C.  Berries also have a high antioxidant capacity, which means they’re more potent than other plant antioxidants.

Berries can help reduce skin wrinkling.  Ellagic acid protects the skin by blocking the production of enzymes that breakdown collagen as a result of sun-damage. Collagen is the protein that gives our skin its structure and keeps it firm.  When collagen is damaged, the skin will sag and wrinkles will form.

In addition to berries, this smoothie also provides pink dragonfruit which is  high in fiber, low in calories but also high in antioxidants betacyanins and betaxanthins, as well as vitamin C.

Collagen is the primary protein that makes up the structure of our skin; it also helps keep our skin elasticity and hydration.  As we age, our body produces less collagen, this results in the breakdown of the skin structure resulting in sagging, wrinkles and dry skin.

Supplementing with collagen daily is one way to elevate our body’s own production of collagen.  Supplementation can also increase the production of structural proteins elastin and fibrillin – important components of your skin too, which can also help reduce cellulite appearance – bonus!

Studies have shown that supplementing with small doses of collagen, even just 5 g/day for as little as 8-weeks resulted in positive skin changes such as improved skin hydration and reduction in wrinkle depth.

Vibrant, pink and full of flavour this delicious smoothie will help prevent the on-set of wrinkles and have you looking fresh, glowing and dewy!  Here’s what you’ll need.

Collagen Protein –  collagen comes in various forms, but marine is best for skin.  Choose either unflavoured or flavoured.  Collagen protein is bitter, compared to your regular protein, but the berry sweetness will smooth that out nicely.

Isolate Protein – provides an additional source of protein that will also help with rebuilding skin and keeping the muscles tight and toned. Isolate protein provides 90% pure protein.

Berries –  use either fresh or frozen, although blueberries and strawberries were used for this mix, you can also use raspberries or blackberries or buy a frozen mix berry  blend.

Beetroot – use beetroot that is already cooked and soft.  Beetroot provides natural nitrates that help increase blood flow in the body, helping increase dilation of blood vessels and improving circulation of nutrients and removal of toxins.

Splash of Almond Milk – this yummy nut milk will add a boost of vitamin E.  This vitamin is a naturally occurring component of health skin that helps defend and protect it against aging, and stress from the environment.

Coconut Yoghurt – provides a creamy texture, as well as probiotics to help with digestion.  You can also replace with a dairy yoghurt such as Greek yoghurt or another plant yoghurt such as soy.

Avocado – be sure to pick a ripe avocado that will provide a smooth creamy texture. Avocado is full of glutathionine, a strong antioxidant that can help improve the brightness and tone of the skin.

How to Make This Anti-Aging Wrinkle Fighting Smoothie:

You can use a small blender to make this magic happen.  Take all ingredients, add lots of ice, place on high for 20 to 30 seconds, depending how icy you like it!  Enjoy!

  • 1/4 Avocado
  • 1/4 cup Blueberries
  • 1/4 cup Strawberries
  • 1/2 cup Beetroot
  • 1/2 cup Pink Dragon Fruit
  • 1 scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Isolate
  • 1 scoop Collagen Peptides
  • 4 oz Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 4 oz Water
  • Ice

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients into blender, and blend on high until completely smoothie and creamy!

LAUREN’S TIPS

  • Not a fan of whey protein, replace with vegan plant protein instead.  Choose one that provides a mix of pea and brown rice protein.
  • Banana can be used to replace the yoghurt or the avocado, it will also provide a sweeter taste too.
